A Calgary First Nations Cultural Village

Why build a First Nations Cultural Village on the Paskapoo Slopes?

  After more than a decade of advocating protection of the Paskapoo Slopes, the Paskapoo Slopes Preservation Society has worked with others to formulate a plan to protect, preserve and at the same time, promote the natural and historic resources that exist on the slopes. By carefully listening to others, the idea of a First Nations Heritage or Cultural Village was born.

A First Nations Cultural Village, located within the City of Calgary would provide numerous benefits, namely:

·
New jobs for aboriginal and non-aboriginal Calgarians;
·
Educational opportunities for Calgary and Alberta children;
·
Economic stimulus from the creation of a new and unique cultural-tourism facility;
·
Enhanced preservation of the land and ancient artifacts;
·
Fresh business opportunities;
·
Increased scientific knowledge of history and ancient First Nations culture;
·
Needed training opportunities for aboriginal persons;
·
Greater understanding of Calgary's first peoples.
