There is a proposal to bring back the Alberta government's Urban Parks Program by handing out $100 million to cities and towns around the province over the next five years to preserve natural areas and develop new parks for their residents. This is something very exciting and should be supported by all of us who appreciate and want to protect the remaining green spaces in this city. Especially parts of the Paskapoo Slopes that are still untouched. So,please contact your MLA and the Minister of Community Development Let them know what you think can, and should be done.

Here is the reply ,to Hugh's enquiry,
from the Chair of the SPC,

regarding Provincial consideration
of providing funding for urban parks
.

Dear Hugh,

Please direct your letter of support to members of the Standing Policy

members; however, I trust you know that all members of the government
caucus are free to attend and vote at every S.P.C. meeting. Thank you
for your support.

Sincerely,

Hugh was able to get the final tally of just how much was brought into the society coffers via the Casino. We received atotal of $57,661 which is great and would not have been possible without the help and dedication of all the willing volunteers. A big THANKS goes out to everyone involved.
Unfortunately, CODA did not go ahead with the project we had planned to contribute to so we will now need to consider how we should use this money as well as other funds we have. We would welcome suggestions and will also be consulting with the City of Calgary and the Nature Conservancy to see if we can partner with them on some preservation initiatives on the Slopes.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on how this money should be used please email Hugh Magill or call the PSPS at 286-6269.

CODA recently announced it's plans for expansion of the C.O.P facilities click on this LINK . Then, if you choose to,go to our Feedback Page and let us know how you feel about these plans.

Our next Casino will be on June 12 and 13th at Casino Calgary 1420 Meridian Rd NE.

We need a minimum of 25 volunteers signed up by the March 31, 2002 if we are to go ahead with it.

Anyone interested in helping as a volunteer should contact Hugh at
288-2695

so that he can get a volunteer form to them.

No previous experience, or special qualifications, are required and we need people for the day and night shifts.

As a point of interest......Alderman (now Mayor)Bronconnier said on the CBC radio program "Homestretch" Dec 6th 2001.....regarding Cougar Ridge
"This density of one house per acre sets a new standard for development of environmentally significant areas. This was the best compromise available. The City had no other option but to allow this development because the Province refused to protect it on the basis of the archeological sites (Historic Site designation) We will be proud of this development when we drive by it in the future."

I wonder if he has driven by that development lately, or seen it as we in Bowness see it? Maybe we should invite him to come and see what we see......and find out just how proud we are ,not, of it!!!!!!!!
See what Hugh had to say on that same radio program....click here

hmmm....just thinking out loud here....how come the city can consider borrowing millions for roads, yet couldn't do the same to purchase the
,environmentally sensitive and archaeologicly valuable , land of Paskapoo Slopes?

We must not give up though...keep writing, email or call Premier Klein .. get the Province involved..
